What Nepalese students should know first

  • 01

    No universal GPA for Nepal

Australia has no single university GPA requirement for Nepalese students — entry standards vary by university and course, and competitive universities ask for stronger results.

  • 02

    Your Grade 12 is recognised

For undergraduate study, universities may recognise NEB Grade 12, CBSE, A Levels and IB. Diploma holders (CTEVT or Australian VET) may enter with credit where articulation exists.

  • 03

    Demand is not a guarantee

Assess career demand by occupation, location and current labour-market conditions. A degree or a skills-shortage listing doesn't guarantee a job, migration or PR. English scores here are indicative.

Reading the field badges

  • Flexible entry

Students from most Grade 12 streams can generally apply.

  • Prerequisites matter

Specific Grade 12 subjects — often Mathematics or Science — are expected.

  • Accredited entry-to-practice

Regulated professions with strict prerequisites, placements and registration rules.

  • A CTEVT Business/Management diploma or an Australian VET Business diploma may give direct entry to a Bachelor of Business/Commerce, or credit through a Diploma-to-Degree pathway, depending on articulation agreements.
  • Mathematics is required or strongly preferred for Business Analytics, Actuarial Studies, Economics, Finance, FinTech and Construction Management under all four qualifications.

Academic guide

Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. GPA/percentage requirements vary by institution, with competitive universities requiring stronger results.

If direct Bachelor entry is not met

Foundation Studies (Business/Commerce) → Bachelor; Diploma of Business/Commerce → Bachelor, often with credit where formal articulation exists; ELICOS where English is the main gap. A Diploma-to-Degree route may allow later-stage entry, with provider-specific credit.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Where the diploma and bachelor are offered as a packaged study pathway, the bachelor is generally your principal course, because it is the final course in the package. That matters because the principal course can influence your Student visa document requirements and visa processing priority. The diploma should provide a clear, genuine academic pathway into the bachelor, with a CoE issued for each packaged course. We recommend checking not only that the diploma “leads to a bachelor”, but how much credit you actually receive, which bachelor you progress into, and what conditions you must meet to progress.

Often yes, but check the academic and visa implications before making the change. Changing a major within the same degree can be an internal university matter depending on course rules — the student services team at your university is the right place to confirm. Current Australian guidance generally allows a Student visa holder to move to another course at the same or a higher AQF level without applying for a new Student visa, although a new visa may eventually be required if additional time is needed.

No. In Australia, Honours may be built into some bachelor programs, or offered as an additional year after a standard bachelor degree. Where it is an additional year, students normally need sufficiently strong academic results to be admitted. An Honours year generally involves advanced coursework and significant research, often including a major research project or thesis. It can be valuable for students considering research careers or later research-based study such as a PhD.

Seek academic support early rather than waiting until repeated failures become a serious problem. Student visa condition 8202 generally requires students to remain enrolled in an appropriate registered course and maintain satisfactory course progress and, where applicable, attendance. Failing an individual subject does not automatically mean a visa is cancelled. But repeated academic difficulty can extend the degree, increase tuition costs and lead to formal intervention by the university. Use academic advisers, tutoring, counselling and other support services as soon as problems appear — not after.

International students under 18 have additional welfare requirements in Australia. If the student will not be living with an approved parent or legal custodian, the education provider generally needs to approve arrangements for accommodation, support and general welfare — commonly documented through a Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare (CAAW). Alternatively, an eligible parent, custodian or qualifying relative may be able to accompany the student under the appropriate guardian arrangements.

Discuss well before travel
  • Accommodation
  • Who holds welfare responsibility
  • Arrival dates
  • Guardian arrangements
  • The university's own requirements

The university's written agreement — not just the offer headline. Australian international-education rules require written agreements to set out important information about fees and refund processes, and the agreement should explain:

  • Tuition fees and non-tuition fees
  • Payment schedules
  • Refund conditions and withdrawal rules
  • What happens if the Student visa is refused
  • Deferral conditions
  • What happens if the provider cannot deliver the course
The five questions to answer before transferring money
  • What exactly are we paying for?
  • Which study period does this payment cover?
  • Which amounts may be refundable?
  • What costs are additional?
  • What happens if circumstances change?

We believe families should understand the financial commitment before transferring the money, not after.

For some careers it matters significantly. Accreditation indicates a course has been assessed against requirements set by the relevant professional body, and TEQSA notes that where accreditation is necessary, its absence or loss can affect a student's ability to progress toward practising in the intended profession. It is not relevant to every bachelor degree, though. A broadly focused business or arts degree may be chosen primarily for knowledge, skills and career development rather than entry into one regulated profession.

Internship

Generally time spent working within an organisation to gain professional experience. It might be part of the degree, an elective, organised independently, paid or unpaid — depending on the arrangement and the rules that apply to it.

Professional or clinical placement

More formally integrated into a course, and in some professionally oriented degrees compulsory for graduation or professional preparation. Examples include professional, clinical, teaching, fieldwork or practicum experiences, depending on the discipline.

Work Integrated Learning

The broader concept. WIL includes placements and internships, but also industry consulting projects, hackathons, startup projects, simulations, industry-sponsored capstone projects and other real-world learning activities.

Potentially, yes. Many Australian universities have extensive international partnership networks that let eligible students spend part of their degree at an overseas partner university. Opportunities and eligibility vary between universities and degrees, and you may need to meet requirements relating to:

  • Academic performance
  • Completed credit points and prerequisites
  • Which partner universities are available
  • Whether suitable subjects exist overseas
  • Faculty approval and other university requirements

Plan an exchange early, because the subjects studied overseas generally need to fit appropriately into the Australian degree rather than being added on top of it.
